This is part of a deal that she made with the students at the beginning of the year and, in my opinion, it is totally short changing the students. If they watch a movie after each test, and say there are ten tests throughout the year, that is two full weeks worth of learning, engagement, and inquiry the students are missing out on. I most certainly do not want this teacher complaining that she doesn't have enough time to "get through" all the material or that she doesn't have time to do inquiry-based science.
Although the movies typically have to deal with the upcoming content, the students are not engaging with the video and most are texting or chatting with their neighbors. Instead of stopping at points throughout the movie and discussing or probing for new information and connections, the movie instead plays through as background noise to most of the students. As a student I was always looking forward to movie day but as a future educator I couldn't disagree more. Rant over.
