At various points throughout the semester I have struggled to figure out what to write about. I usually looked to class material and group discussion to guide my blog entries, although that wasn’t always easy. I felt as if I was being repetitive and didn’t want to bore my audience, no matter how small it may be. This was the case for the last handful of weeks as I was attempting to just grind out the required number of blog entries until something hit me, sort of like running into a brick wall. This blog is for me. I can write what I want, when I want, and about nearly any topic. Although it is a professional development blog, to a degree, why not have some fun with it?
I want my future students to be able to enjoy music in the classroom when applicable and wanted to begin working on a playlist of songs that I thought were appropriate, first and foremost, but also fun to listen to and songs they don’t mind hearing. Of course, I need to enjoy the songs as well and would probably include certain artists or tracks that a number of students would laugh at, even though I am not yet that much older than them.
My goal is to have everyone that reads this blog to submit a song idea, or two, or three, or ten, and I will begin constructing a playlist for myself and my future students, and potentially, even my classmates in methods!
As someone who performs better when music is playing, I know there are certain types that work and those that certainly do not. Of course, some of this depends on the type of work I am doing and the mood I am in. At one point I can be jamming out to country music then feel the need to switch to rap, then quickly change again to hard rock, all while ending up at pop songs of the early 2000’s.
I also understand that there are those people that cannot function at all if they are distracted by the music in their surroundings and will be very cognizant of this in my classroom.
I have included a list of some of my personal favorites with videos to a few and encourage you to leave your best suggestions! Thank you and happy finals week!
Playlist:
Good Vibrations – Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch
Drops of Jupiter – Train
A Modern Day Prodigal Son – Brantley Gilbert
In Color – Jamey Johnson
We Are Going to Be Friends – The White Stripes
